Charity Show and Shine 2022

RLCC/JCCV Charity Show and Shine

The Riviera Lakes Car Club (RLCC) and the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria, East Gippsland Register, hosted a large number of Jaguar Car Club members and their vehicles from all over Victoria, for a Charity Show and Shine event at The Newlands Arm Community Centre on Sunday the 27th March. The weekend commenced with a “Meet and Greet”, on Friday evening.  Forty plus JCCV participants, and representatives from the RLCC, enjoyed drinks at Café/Bar, Three Double 8 Zero, in Paynesville.

Residents and visitors to the area, would have seen some sensational Jaguars around town, with seven E types, two XK 140’s, several early Saloons and many moderns, in attendance. The Event was included in the JCCV Calendar of Events, to celebrate 60 years since the formation of the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria in 1962 and attracted some 40 JCCV Members, from around Victoria, to the area.

On Saturday 26th we joined local boat touring company “H2O” for an eye- opening launch tour of the waterways around Paynesville, followed by an escorted Koala Walk around Raymond Island. Representatives from Koalas of Raymond Island, gave the participants an informative talk on the history of the Koala population, and fielded many questions about their program.

A Welcome Dinner was held on Saturday evening at “Three Double 8 Zero” Restaurant, with some sixty members, from both clubs, enjoying a sumptuous three course meal, provided by hostess Annie, Chef Jason and Staff. It was an excellent night, with many complimentary comments on the fantastic food and service provided. The welcome address was provided by RLCC Vice President, Peter Murray filling in for the RLCC President, who unfortunately tested positive to COVID the day previous, forcing him to miss out on the festivities.

The sensational weather continued for Sunday, as sixty vehicles lined up for display, on the freshly mown grass area, in Simpsons Park, adjacent to the Newlands Arm Community Centre. Approximately ninety members and friends attended the event, with morning and afternoon tea provided. A picnic lunch was enjoyed under the shady trees and Club Gazebo. The RLCC BBQ trailer and NARRA Community Clubrooms facilities catered for participants.

RLCC Vice President, Peter Murray, welcomed all entrants and visitors, and Awards were presented for the People’s Choice and a President’s Award, for each Club.

The JCCV President Geoff Hergt was in attendance and presented the JCCV People’s Choice award to the sensational red 1956 Jaguar XK140 convertible owned by Peter Vat. The winner of the JCCV Presidents award was the beautiful maroon 1954 XK140 owned by local Paynesville resident, Lloyd Reynolds.

The winner of the RLCC People’s Choice Trophy was the newly acquired red 1964 Cadillac Deville Convertible, owned by Carol and Rick Forbes, while the RLCC Presidents Award was presented to the Trident Roadster, owned by Wayne and Belinda Tonkin, from Lakes Entrance. This vehicle, originally built and raced by Wayne’s father, was lost for fifty years, until Wayne located it in Albury in 2010 and commenced restoration. Finally completed in January of this year it now looks and drives better than ever.

Both Clubs welcomed the opportunity to introduce our visitors to the charms of East Gippsland and appreciated their support of local businesses. Proceeds of the event will be donated to a local charity.
